  • Showing lovely straight out of bottle and improving with airtime. Beautifully balanced, pretty nose of cherry, strawberry, menthol, and some leather. Palate reflects same. Grippy tannins tell me this will continue to flourish for another 5+ years. This could be a case of a wildly underrated vintage, or an excellent producer, or both.

  • NEECIES note inspired me to pop another one of these; indeed, it shows as brilliant as ever. I bumped this up a point because it undeniably over-delivers for the price (which now seems to be in the $50++ range - though I don’t see the 2016 available currently - bummer). Vibrant red and purple-red fruit flavors that gain gorgeous depth with air. A balanced intensity that is both zippy and aptly acidic, but also shows deeper, sappier tonalities. Some citrus rind and evergreen notes add further complexity.

Drink now or hold with confidence. Sealed with DIAM 10, which is a huge plus in my book.

  • CSIMM1161 below's review from 5/20 still applies: "Nicely pitched black cherry, purple plum, sap, fallen pine needles, and river rock notes...youthfully lively and lifted. Balances it flavors nicely, despite some juvenile linearity."

  • Solid - good balance. Needs about 30 mins to come around. Very primary still - Using DIAM 10 cork.

  • Man.... For $33 I should have backed the truck up with this wine (of course, now that I see it’s around $50 now - which is still a reasonable tariff). This WAY over-delivers for its class and price-point. Nicely pitched black cherry, purple plum, sap, fallen pine needles, and river rock notes. Surprisingly succulent and accessible for such a young wine. On the darker cherry fruit spectrum, but also youthfully lively and lifted. Balances it flavors nicely, despite some juvenile linearity. I love how the bass element mid-palate shows hints of promise already and is beautifully carried by the acid and higher tonalities, allowing for a deliberate undulation of flavor and speed. Finishes with a primary fruit cut that raises tension and sticks to the inside of the cheeks with grippy acid. Quaffable now, but likely best to hold for short term cellaring. 93++ points. I may even be underscoring a bit just cuz I know what I paid for this. A fun surprise!
