This time the wine was tasted alongside the 2017 Jamet cote rotie. See a separate note for this wine. Guigals Ermitage resembles good Burgundy aromatically with juniper, spices, pine resin, flowers and various black fruit. It is elegant, deep, concentrated, refined and intense both aromatically and on the palate. May take now is better wait several years as the wine will only get better with time.

This is all about perfectly ripe yet absolutely fresh fruit at the moment. Ripeness and freshness come hand in hand delivering pure, regal black cherries, plums, black pepper, hoisin, red cherries, flowers, propolis, hints of BBQ smoke and roasted duck. Excellent, spherical balance on the palate, the wine is rich and almost sweet, yet brings waves of pronounced but very soft acidity and minerality. Looong finish. This wine is a pure liquid aristocracy. You can absolutely drink it now. You can wait 5 years. Or 10. Or 20. You choose. But if you have any chance, go grab some. And then some more. PS: my main take from this is that Ex Voto is the wine that can best be described as ethereal and floral, high but super soft acidity and with a finish that lasts forever; whereas the recently tasted Torbrecks are more of a powerhouse with overripe fruit, meaty and smoky flavors W/o much freshness and relatively short on the finish.

97+ Although young, everything is already in place here after 2 hours of air. Drinking side by side with among others a Bruno Clair Chambertain GC, the nose of this picture perfect Syrah was by far the most expressive and seductive. Like all really great wines, this combines incredible power and length with an elegance and charm that is just breathtaking. I feel blessed to have experienced such a wine.
Probably a 100p wine in the future.

Big and broad, this is excellent from start to finish. Loads of black fruit, smoke, pepper, and perfume. Tannins are quite powerful right now, and this will become truly special once they step back and integrate further. Long finish.
