Birthday Weekend - 1971 BV Pinot, Flowers Perennial, QPR Rose and SB (The Phoenician, Scottsdale, AZ): So, I started buying birth year wines in February and have been waiting to open this since then. I lugged it to AZ, couldn't find a BYO place and ultimately opened it in my hotel room. All that build up and suspense and then... nothing! As I pulled out the cork I got a strong aroma of figs and raisins soaked in vinegar. The vinegar blew off from the nose, but the palate was shot. The color was burnt burgundy with lots of brown at the sides. Still, I have to admit, I was really excited about the whole experience and enjoyed opening it. I also have the 1971 Cab and look forward to cracking that one open as well.
