Blind: It's definitely Pinot and it's old. Old world or "old" new world? I'm in deep thought, pondering the medium depth of color it's maintained and a spearmint note. There's a little barnyard. I'm absorbed. FMIII says "I think it's corked." What? Wait, no??? Sure enough, I flew right by it. I'm not the best TCA hound dog in the pack... I came back an hour later and it was in full force. Bummer.

Tasted blind. Well, this is an oldie. And the bummer was that we believed the wine was corked. Chewy fruit underneath but an aromatic that seemed disrupted by the TCA. Too bad.

Clearly on its last legs, but there was still plenty to enjoy here. Sweet red fruits were dominant with plenty of notes of caramel and toffee. More amazed to be able to drink California wine history.

1968 BEAULIEU VINEYARDS “BEAUMONT” NAPA VALLEY PINOT NOIR- this bottle had some briary and metallic character that stood out in the aroma as well as the taste; the fruit was more on the wild side with dried blackberry and black raspberry; it finished with more of the metallic notes.

Initially felt very old and fragile, with some balsamic and earthy notes. Improved a bit over the night, but still decades past peak. The mouth was smooth and still retained some distant fruit, finish was a little short.
