dark and bluish purple and medium body. bright red and black fruit in the expressive nose, lovingly accented by tobacco, cedar, and cocoa. not quite as expressive in the mouth at the moment, the grippy tannins are a bit dominant. but they do let fresh dark cherry and juicy plum flavours mingle with pepper, spice, and chocolate accents. long persistence that bends to savoury.
elegant and of creamy texture, this will improve. i'd say give it another two plus years. upside rating potential here.

Decanted for 3 hours. Still a little restrained at the beginning. The wine then got better and better. Certainly still young, could possibly improve a little with more time. 91-92 pts. at the moment.

Domaine visit. This had more aromas and precision than the 2019 Paulliac, third wine, next to it but felt a little light (like so many 2017s) for a higher score.

65.2 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 0.8 % Cabernet franc
Visually, this has a lighter hue than the 2015 Latour Grand Vin tasted along side. Redder shade of garnet, though still dark and opaque core. Compact rim.
On the nose, Les Forts is quite evolved already, showing crushed red cherry, mulberry, blackcurrant, seaweed, mint, crushed garden herb, new leather.
On the palate, this Les Forts shows medium tannic level, medium to medium plus acidity, medium body, dry. Red fruited characters, intense minerality, again lots of sage, mint, rosemary, and thyme. Very appetizing! Finish is refreshing without any excess.
This is a very classic Les Forts that is ready to go with 2-3 hours of decanting. Similar to our experience at Pichon Barron, 2017 is definitely an early vintage but also not lacking in quality either. Currently, I would drink this over this venerable chateau's 2015 Grand Vin. 93.

Minty, leafy, red currant, and white pepper-infused aromatics lead the way to an austere, chalky, red berry wine with a creamy endnote on the back end. The classically-wine was produced by blending 65.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, and .08% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2023-2035.
