From magnum. En primeur purchase. Gave it a quick double decant 1 hour before dinner just to make sure it was correct and to see if it need any extended time in the decanter ( which it didn’t so poured it straight back into the cleaned out bottle so it would be ready to pour).
Light translucent ruby. On the nose it was all sweet red capsicum, cassis, cedar and forest floor that if you had it blind you would say it was a St. Julian or even a mid-80s Figeac. All open and ready to drink in this format. Slipped down very easily. Mid weight and mid length but very elegant and balanced but really no hint of Latour power, fruit or concentration. Needs to be drunk up and this might have been the last magnum as w3 bottled almost all the 97s in magnum given the “lighter” vintage characteristics. Still a delicious beverage for a fun gathering of good friends celebrating our city’s hard work to completely eliminate the virus from the community. Now 23 days with no local transmissions!! I think we can all drink to that and can show the way to the rest of the world that the light at the end of the tunnel is not a freight train heading straight into you...

Really good and not remotely close to end of its life. Au contraire, fresh, vibrant Pauillac fruit. Structured - so well made. VERY impressive, sturdy and rich.

Decanted for 30 minutes. Coffee, leather, sour apples and cherries. Finished with a strong spice, leather, and sour apples components. Drink Now!!!! It probably merits a better score but since it's 2nd wine from Latour and costs $130+ I expect more from this chateau.

Tasted side by side with a '97 Chateau Tayac. Out of the celler, the Les Forts was cold and close to tasteless. As it warmed and breathed, it gained some richness and smoothness, but still was relatively underwhelming for the price point, which was so long ago, we can't remember.

Ruby with a brown rim. Richly layered with aromas of tart, baked red berries along with leather, forest ground, barnyard and coffee beans. The palate does not reflect the same richness especially on the mid palate.
