Drank with Mark1npt & Carol at our house in Colorado. Decanted an hour or so. Thankfully wasn’t an over ripe fruit bomb like the 2014 was and drank at a similar age. In fact it had no sweetness at all. Very smooth and extracted with red & blue fruit. Long finish. For sure a Modern CA Cab. I’m an OldSchool, black fruit CA Cab guy and while the wine was quite enjoyable it isn’t a favorite of mine. Very well made for sure.
Been a year since my last bottle of this one. Graciously opened and waiting for us upon arrival by our hosts, (Mr/Mrs) WineGuyDelMar. Dark purple in the glass, beautiful nose of cassis and the typical Napa notes. Palate is smooth, integrated tannins and fruit. No sharp edges and very well balanced with acidity. The fruit is primarily black with maybe a hint of blue. Nice to know these '16s are continuing to do so well! Thanks for opening this one, R&N!
Executive Summery: well balanced and enjoyable now will improve with a few more years in the bottle. Clear, deep purple, with a clean nose of pronounced intensity with all the usual aromas of well made Napa cab:Black cherry, plums, fennel, toast, charred wood are just a few of the dominant aromas. Wine is developing. Palate:dry, high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, full body, Flavors are not overpowering dark fruit of typical Napa cabs but are more refined and pleasant: dominant flavors are dark cherry, bitter chocolate, licorice and a hint of minerals. Finish is long and pleasant. Very good wine to enjoy now but will improve with more bottle age as it develops more secondary and tertiary aromas and flavors

Well balanced wine after one hour decant/airing from cellar. Enjoyed it with sausage and mushroom ragu. Pleasant flowering nose. Tart on front of tongue and back. Mellow cherry fruit flavor with slight wood. Drinking well now.

Prune, plum, sweet tar, concentrated anise, blackberry, mix of milk and bittersweet chocolate. Double dense viscosity, purple/inky color. Long finish. Hedonistic effort by Mike Smith.
