Probably one of the greatest Rieslings I have ever tasted. Green golden color. Tastes like an off-dry version of high end ice wine. Crystalline purity of tropical fruit, acacia flowers, honey, propolis, lime, mint and hints of petrol. Excellent balance of acids, sugars and dry extract. Super long (unendlich) finish. A wow wine!

Lovely, perfumed nose of peach, some citrus, and vanilla at first (which dissipated after some air in the glass). Good acidity and relatively rich texture with tart peach, and a hint of honey on the palate. Long finish. I was surprised and worried by the oaky vanilla notes at first, but it disappeared after a few hours in the glass, when the wine really started to shine. At that point, it was beautiful, complex, yet rich and powerful. Probably much too young at this point, I would wait 7-10 years to open again. 94-96

Beautiful clean medium golden color. In the nose white flowers, fresh lime and fresh cut green grass. On the palate fresh lime, honey, pear, peach and soft Mang notes. Medium + bodied with a medium + acidity. Very precise and clean structure. Good complexity and depth and a very long and alluring finish. Although this is very young in the moment it already shows its excellence. Drink from 2023-2032. It will definitely gain more complexity over the upcoming years. (IG)

F.X. Pichler Riesling Unendlich full vertical (1998-2017) (Restaurant Waldhorn, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Gabriel Standard Bottle opened ~36h before. Double decanted ~ 10h before drinking. Clear, pale, yellow-golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, youthful nose with lots of fine, candied fruit, some garden herbs, very dense and beautiful. On the palate lots of pressure and tension! Aromas driven by clean botrytis, honey, acacia, some interesting bitter notes. Leaner than 2016. Good acidity. Unfortunately quite hot sometimes. Good potential for the next 20 years. 92-93+

At the FKALBTG monthly blind wine dinner, but since we were the hosts, it was not blind to me. Two tastes - first when poured and then later retasted out of the bottle after about 60-90 minutes of air. Initially, it was a great, balanced, floral on the nose and tropical fruit melange, better than other dry Rieslings but not otherworldly. The second taste, when Gary decided we should check back in towards the end, WAS an epiphany, it was a massive cascade of fruits and flowers all rolled into one. The fruit palate included definable apricot, pineapple, Granny Smith apple, guava and a few others in a perfectly cut presentation with laser sharpness but without searing acidity. The flowers on the nose were like honeysuckle with a mixture of other light flower components. Nothing strong and overpowering, like a flowering rose. We drank this in a flight of two with the 2017 Pichler Riesling Smaragd Ried Kellerberg, no slouch by itself and ordinarily a great experience, but compared to the Unendlich, it was like drinking Blue Nun.
Candidate for WOTY and probably Dry White Wine of the Decade. Maybe "only" second to the Jadot Le Montrachet at the Heritage Finals the first year in Vegas. Maybe I should say 98 points, but after all, it was just white wine.
