  • Sitting in a wine bar/store across from our hotel in a ski town in Austria 6 bottles of this were for sale at a reasonable price so we had to try, even though this was infanticide at this point in its life. Taking the notes of other posters here, we opened on one night and poured 2 small glasses which we let sit open for a few hours. Cork went back into the bottle which sat overnight at room temperature.

Day1- obviously this was tight and highly strung with piercing minerality. Good Lord the nose was gorgeous-hay, wildflowers and freshly cut grass.

Day 2- probably should have left the cork out all night. Still tight but wow this showed so much better as the fruit was soaring and so many tropical fruit flavors. Slightly off-dry this wine has so much going on.

Summary-hold for 5+ years and still give it plenty of air.

  • This was way too young but I simply could not resist trotting it out for a test drive. It has all the makings of a great Riesling, but it simply has not all come together quite yet. The body, ripeness, power, length, and acid structure are all present in spades. But somehow it still felt like pushing a square peg into a round hole. It was a WHOLE lot better on the second day (yes guys, there was one Schluck left in the bottle). I think I might have psyched myself up too much for this bottle, but I am prepared to give it the time it needs to sort itself out, and I have no doubt that it will become an absolute blockbuster at the right time.

  • Some serious whites: I liked this a lot more than the 2007, definitely showed its class. Terribly young so I left it in the glass for two hours, it transformed into something much more expressive with some gloriously vibrant fruit of mainly peaches, together with some honey on the nose. Had a restrained power to it that I always love. Definitely a brooding sort of wine, it had an impeccable balance to the structure, acid and fruit. Would love to try this in a decade or two's time.
