  • Nose - raspberry, cassis, cedar bark, and spices (paprika, cinnamon, clove, and black pepper). In the mouth, medium amount of ripe/fine grainy tannin is supported by high-ish good acidity, just moderately milky/creamy like a fresh berry juice, with additional complexity of barrel-brewed soy sauce from age. Medium++ finish is dominated by fragrant spices. Beautifully matured and everything is just right - a textbook chinon. Consistently good throughout day 1-5, gained leathery richness and fragrant potpourri and sandalwood at the end. Long life ahead.

  • Classic CF aroma, colour and taste. Just lacking length and complexity. Still good but nothing amazing.

  • Great color. The nose shows aromas of berries, flowers, herbs, funky earth and a hint of spices. This is medium bodied on the palate with excellent concentration and very good class. Silky for Cab Franc. The medium plus length finish features integrated tannins.

  • Gang of 5 in Covid19 times; Loire (@ RW): Beautiful bouquet with red berries and vanilla from the oak. On the palate an elegant wine with red and dark berries; not fully ripe blackberries, some red currants, cherries and eucalyptus. Subtle wine with fresh acidity.

  • Excellent wine. Black and red raspberry compote, a mild leafy edge, lots of chalkiness, a little red licorice, and limestone-evocative minerality. Plenty of acidity and almost no bitterness to the tannins, which are in fact pretty elegant by Chinon standards. There’s really good dynamic intensity and a medium-long finish. Nothing that could be considered rustic. All in all, a treat. The midpalate fills out with air exposure, so plan ahead.

Look forward to comparing this to the 2015 Olga when it hits stores.
