The usual "dirty note" in this wine is more persistant in this bottle. I even suspected cork at the beginning, but it just took more time than usual to open up (so be patient ;)). Earthy aromas, cool fruit. In the mouth medium+ volume, perfect balance, good acidity, tannins a touch rustic.

I've relatively little experience with Chinon, and this was an intriguing wine. For the first ten minutes or so it was extremely unappealing, with the nose dominated by raw green pepper and tomato stalk, and the finish awkward, astringent and even a tad cidery. Although the tannins weren't causing any issues, and the wine didn't seem closed, I chose to do an aggressive decant, and after 30 or so minutes the unpleasant characteristics had softened somewhat and I was able to enjoy the wine's inky-dark fruit and subtle savoury qualities. Further praise for the the fact it was excellent with our roast chicken with livery gravy, and only 12% abv.

P&p; drinking well right away. Pungent, moist, mossy, leafy earth, black tea, and dark-reddish cherry and blackcurrant aromas, with a streak of something almost smoky like dark bread crust. Almost no explicit greenness, but still plenty of Loire Cab Franc goodness. Delicious fruit. Plenty of acidity. Good dose of leafy, tealike character. Good stuff and a good value, as always.

Great, but didn’t get to give it the attention it deserved because it was drank at a large tasting.

A lot of wine for $20. Gets better every year it seems.
