Smokey menthol and rich black fruit notes rise from the glass ands caress the palate. This is the oldest Run Rig I have had and its development is fascinating. Will something that starts out as heavily extracted robust structured Aussie Shiraz survive the test of time? Will the fruit subside? When the fruit subsides what will be left? I'm afraid only partial answers as although the fruit is definitely fading it is still a fruit driven wine, just proving how big the underlying structure is. No longer a block buster, now medium to full bodied, providing a satisfying mouthful without being overdone. The tannin and acidity still provide plenty of grip and lift. Long and complex. Drinking now and will last for at least another decade.

Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Very charming floral component from the start. Chocolate and mint with dense, ripe black fruit that came across as just short of over-ripe. Not my preferred style of wine, but clearly well made.

Needs 30-45 min decant but just wonderful afterwards. Not sure how much more this vintage can offer but very lucky to have enjoyed this tonight
