Not surprising for a Spring Mountain Merlot, this one is not unlike a baby Cabernet Sauvignon. Blueberry on the tip of the tongue. Very grownup levels of acid and tannin provide excellent structure. A fairly robust wine. The slightest suggestion of citrus (orange, in fact) around the edges of the tongue. On the rear palate I get suggestions of leather and tobacco.

Initially on PnP, heavily perfumed with white cherries, flowers, and potpurri. The first taste leaps onto your palette and announces its arrival with more gusto than other merlots.
After an hour open, this wine rocks. Still young, but showing well already. Bright red fruit, continued bold perfume, and a touch of dry oak and baking spices. Gentle tannins and high acid (yay mountain fruit!)
FWIW, this was generally preferred by all tasters over an 8 hour decanted 2016 Montrose. *shrug*
WINEBURROWINGWOMBAT nailed this review -- I agree that the nose lacks restraint.
Enjoyed over 2 days. Day 1 was tight, hard to get past the alcohol on the nose and palate. Big tannins. Day 1 it was a little more mellow and you could get the fruit, earth and oak on the nose and palate. Enjoyable but I would hold for several more years.

This Barnett punches well above its weight.

too many sharp edges for me especially for a Merlot. give it a couple of years and see if it rounds out some but for now....meh
