Showed so well, grew and improved over an hour plus open. Very pretty nose of dark dark fruit that almost seems tarry and then more savory with dark olives, but sparkles too with floral and mineral tones. Well balanced with good acidity, feels energetic and lithe on the palate, and this is nice because the nose still feels so young and almost brutish. Very lovely wine, and one that I imagine will bring lots of pleasure over the next 5-10 years

Beautifully elegant--black fruits on nose, lithe and fresh, streaks of mineral, olive and garrigue as usual. A bit shallow and soft on the mid-palate. But continues to express and be interesting. Would be wary of pairing this with anything too heavy or rich.

France 2013 – Northern Rhone; 4/17/2013-4/19/2013 (Ampuis): Tasted at the Domaine. Served blind. Some maturity on the nose with lovely funk, red fruits, salty meats and a hint of smoke. Very well balanced with good structure and length. We came back to this around 30min later and it had improved quite a bit. Drinking well right now in a youthful way but will develop further for another 5-7+ years no problem. Jean felt this would have shown better with 2 hours in the decanter (he feels all their young wines need air because of the racking). Excellent. 90+

it's as if it's the current vintage - thick black olivey dense syrah, perfumed and delicious, well balanced, excellent wine, but time hasn't seemed to impact this wine at all. still shows like a baby.

Ruby red, a little towards purple. A little mute too begin with, but with a little air smell of earth and black pepper, some smoke. Rich fruit, good acid. Balanced tannins. Feels good in the mouth. My last bottle 2004, so now I have too wait for 2006 and 2007 too mature a little more. Very good value St. Joseph.
