So typical Northern Rhône, and ths is getting richer, more lush, accent on the olives, the bacon. Has real quality, no signs of decline. On day 2 maybe less lush and more lean, but still extremely elegant. No rush to drink this. #Bagnols-en-Forêts

Pretty and perfumed nose with cherries, black pepper, chocolate, and cocoa. The palate is still quite tannic with more cherries, black berries, and tart berries. Long finish. This is very good, but could still use more time in the cellar for the tannins to soften. The 2011 Reynard next to it was much more ready.

Wasn’t sure what to make of this last night but damn the first smell of this today was rockin. Stellar nose of classic Syrah notes of meat and olives, along with a piercing line of beautiful fruit -blackberry, wild strawberry and cherry, violets, minerals and stones. This is both soaring and precise. Enveloping. Palate is a little more rough - has lots of olives and brine with some fruit and violets in the background. Excellent, a little on the tart side, lithe with a punch and nice sap. Grows into finish which is tannic and tart w brine and minerals. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

(Pierre Gonon St. Joseph) Dark red violet color; herbaceous, olive, green pepper nose; tart, herbaceous red fruit palate with menthol, a little tight; medium finish 89+ pts.
(Gonon St. Joseph) Upon opening the nose was just screaming with with olives, blood, game leather, spice, loam and mineral. A nose that utterly reeks of stanky Syrah. Every old school Syrah lovers dream. The palate has wonderfully rich fruit, that is exceptionally pure and coupled with lovely acidity. There is lovely earthy sweetness to the fruit and an animal character that kicks in on the back end. The finish lingers and shows great complexity already at this young age but this will improve over the next ten years. Tremendous wine. There is a granular-like texture and suave, sleek tannins. This is Syrah that is a killer value and actually scrap that . . .just a killer wine.
(Gonon St. Joseph) God this was good. Impeccably balanced with such pure, rich and concentrated fruit you could not believe it. Incredibly peppery on the finish with wonderful soil inflected flavors that last and last. Just the essence of Syrah. Drank half the bottle last night and will drink the other half tonight. Kept getting bigger and more detailed throughout the evening. The complexity it already showed was fantastic.

Lovely showing. Had some funkiness on opening that took about an hour and a half to blow off. Rustic and refined at the same time.

Not much have changed over the past couple of years. Black olive notes, light and elegant fruit, good acidity. Great vintage for Gonon.
