  • Probably needed more air. Still big and structured. Quite tight and closed. At the dark fruit end of the spectrum. Most thought 10 years old so we’re surprised when they heard it’s 18 years. This has a long way to go. From GLT

  • Opened 5 hours ahead (3 hours in the decanter). Dark complex red & black cherry bouquet. Still big, dense, intense fruit, but more refined than the last time I had this wine 5 years ago. Some earthiness. In a very good place, and not in decline. This was more drinkable on opening compared to the 2006 Faiveley Mazis drunk alongside, but it improved steadily over 2-hours drinking. 93+

  • Red and black cherry fruit with touch of wood and earth notes. The palate’s best quality is the finesse combined with flavour intensity that carries to a lingering finish. Classy all the way. Drank over three days and it kept getting better. Very good now but will get better.

  • Showing a little age and development, but still pretty structured and probably just at the beginning of its window. Big, spicy nose. Liked this quite a bit.

  • medium red color just starting to brick at the rim, on the nose plums and cherries with a still noticeable presence of spicy oak, on the palate a very textured wine and quite deep (for Charmes) with red and black fruits showing well but still in development, excellent highly aromatic finish with intense spices- notably clove, given the sheer size and generosity of the fruit in the best 2005s this is deceptively good now- but I think a good deal of nuance is yet to come as it begins to unfurl, the structure here is rather firm and this may end up ever so slightly rustic or dusty on the finish in time, but overall I think there is a very good future ahead here.
