  • Dark, purple color.

Not the most complex nose but there is an impressive purity to the fruit with layers of minty herbs, moist soil and licorice root in the background.

This has for sure some RS and initially I found it a bit off-putting. But this wine grows on me and I think that the wine has acidity enough to balance it out. Saved half the bottle over night and the next evening when I knew what to expect I liked it quite a lot. It is a big (but not Bricco dell' Uccellone big) and full bodied Barbera with very ripe, but not jammy, black fruit. Great intensity to the flavors and a long finish.

I can see that the RS may be a dealbreaker for some but it is a very good wine. Could probably age pretty well since it has both great concentration and acidity.

  • Realizing we just don't like this. Not subtle enough for me. Knocked me over the head. Rich and powerful, but not in a way I enjoyed. Too sweet. Generally, an overwhelming wine I wish I liked more (having remembered good vintages and bottles in the past).

  • I remember liking previous vintages much more. This was pretty underwhelming. Feeling like I gave the previous vintages more cellar time and they benefited from that. Probably wouldn't drink so young again (or maybe this vintage just isn't as good???).

  • A tad sweet for a Barbara, but Monferrato tends that way in my experience. We have drank many Barbara wines, and I would say - as a comparison to that group - that I’ve had many better, but on a QPR this is fine and drinkable. Would be good for most people who are not serious wine drinkers.
