  • When cold, this one really is a bit astringent on the front but a LOT breaks through afterward (cue another sip..). This wine really does best pretty close to room temp. This wine is very full bodied and just really well balanced. Mostly yellow fruit, kiwi, mango, peach and pear but I get a bit of tropical character here on the front which actually did have building acidity as it warmed and a limestone grit to the tannin on the finish. Enjoyed on its own, this wine would go well with probably just about any dish and I even think this one has the complexity to tackle a steak. This one will do well in the cellar now or within 10 years.

  • Pop and pour.
Tasted after the 2016 Rivers Marie Thieriot Chardonnay.
Tasted with food (chicken thigh cutlets and penne in a tomato based sauce, in case you were wondering). Then followed on its own for about an hour.
    Light gold color.
Nose offers crisp fresh-picked tart apples with hint of citrus and pineapple.
Bright citrus and crisp green apple and some pineapple on the intro. Follows up with a touch of hazelnut skin, and some lime peel on the finish.
    Very nice.
A little brighter and tart than the 2016.
    Enjoyable.
Shows a reductive note on day two, with a stainless steel-mineral component.
    Quality cork. Branded without vintage.
13.9% abv, so a little lighter than the 14.2% for the 2016 version.

  • Almost in about face from my previous experience this one has sad another several months very thick, full-bodied Chardonnay. A lot of mixed yellow fruit, some tropical nuances on the nose. The palate has a thick mouthfeel. Mango, honeysuckle, chamomile and wild white flowers. Good acidity throughout. Did not really have a lot of limestone grit, but I don't think I have ever really noticed that with this vineyard versus a couple of others in the RM chard profile. Finished with a white pepper. Beautiful wine, in a really nice drinking spot. I almost wonder if potentially there was a flaw to the previous wine opened. Although this one has a ton of structure, I'm not really sure I want the other one to sit for too long. I think these are quite enjoyable right now, but I also feel as though you could leave these alone for another 5 to 7 years to see how they develop.

  • PnP. Light greenish gold. Interesting nose which was quite light and ethereal but also has some tropical fruit and spice notes. Quite full on the palate with lemon drop and other citrus. A bit unctuous and drinking well; not that much of an acidic spine for long aging. Nice wine.

  • Still young but exceptional. Apricot and honeysuckle and white flowers. Strong acid on the backside that gives a ton of structure. Will try to lay off the rest for a couple years. Very Burgundian.
