First Wednesday Wine Club Rhone Dinner (One Penny Red, Summer Hill): Medium minus intensity aromas of bees wax, muted stone fruit, a little apple, cream. Juicy, tangy , leesy, buttery, waxy textured lends glycerol fatness, touch of oaky texture, smidge of marzipan on the finish, alcohol warmth a little intrusive on the long finish. Gets better with time. Nice.

Chapoutier (Ivy Bottle Shop, Sydney): Medium minus intensity aromas initially, with agitation opens to show a little bees wax, cream, sweet spice, tiny honey and bruised apple joins stone fruits especially nectarines. Fleshy, buttery, rich, muted fruit, softly textured burr, broad, very long, polished and pretty special.

91 pts
100% Marsanne. Light hay yellow gold colour. Lanolin nose with grated ginger root. Moderate to low acidity, waxy, heavy 14.5% alcohol which, although well integrated, made it a bit foursquare. Seemed more oaked than it apparently is. To be honest, white Rhone is not my bag except for older Condrieu. 88 but thanks, Daniel.

Good depth, soft and honeyed, perhaps lacking in some cut and drive but this fitted the bill with the food. Very much enjoyed in an easy manner.
