  • Received through an Italian wine club. Just not a good wine. Very sour. Couldn’t drink.

  • From the retailer...
Ok - 2014 was NOT a celebrated vintage in Montalcino, and by the time 2014 Brunello was legal to release, producers knew that they had the blockbuster/collectible vintages of 2015 and 2016 coming up in barrel. The wholesale market knew this as well, and 2014 Brunello was pretty much a doomed affair from day one. What is "wrong" with 2014 Brunello? Nothing, really, if you like to "drink" your wine. If you prefer to "collect" your Brunello and age it for a decade or longer, yes, 2014 is NOT something that you want, as the wines mature very early.

    So...

Some producers, such as La Rasina, skipped 2014 Brunello altogether, declassifying all of their barrels as humble/less $$ Rosso di Montalcino. The market had no interest in 2014 Rosso either, as restaurants are not a thing in this Pandemic period. All of the above sums up the situation here, and we end up with Tuscan gorgeousness that will cost YOU less than it cost the winery to produce.
