This was a very nice Calistoga cab - ripe fruit but everything else in balance, and the fruit hadn't been hung too long but retained real skin tannin and true cab character. Reminded me of Montelena from 20 years ago. Good wine!

Good; seems ready. Pretty textbook, restrained (e.g. not overoaked/over-worked) valley floor Napa Cab. I like the nose more than the palate, but that's just me, being used to more acidity in the wines I drink. Happy to have tried, but not something I"ll be looking to buy again. Doesn't present as an ager. Just 100 cs produced.

This is in an excellent spot. Despite the reputation of the 2017 vintage this wine us crushing it. No decant. Just some swirling in the glass and its fantastic. Need more of this!!! Great job Merrill!!!
PnP. Much more approachable than many vintages. Red and black cherry, anise, cocoa aromas and flavors. Mild oak notes. Tannins are present in the medium finish but much softer than expected. Really good now. Not sure if this will hold as well as other vintages.

Opened a 2017 EMH ‘Black Cat’ cab tonight. Didn’t have much time for decanting, so it was basically pop-and-pour, accompanying roast pork. It was delicious and probably the most approachable young Black Cat I can recall. Really nice.
