  • 15 minute decant, drank about half the bottle with beef. Fairly substantial tannins for this age. Nice structure, cedar, blackberry, good perfumed nose.

  • Full of lovely rich sweet black fruit, accented with dark chocolate and gravel. The fruit is in a slightly riper profile than more recent Black Cats, and pushes my preferred ripeness to the edge but doesn't go over. The structure has come into balance with the silky fruit and carries it elegantly through midpalate. This has developed beautifully and is in a great spot now.

  • After a 30 minute aeration decant, it was very good. After another 20 minutes it was outstanding. Great balance of dark fruits, to dark spice from front palate to mid palate to back palate. Structured well with smooth tannin. A delight!!
Give it at least 30 minutes to open and drink slowly so you can appreciate the improvements at an hour.

  • What a pleasure! a perfect match basically to anything. Just like in prior tastings, the key was the well balance of the spices, and the fruits- lots of cherry, blackberry, some currant-- Well rounded taste, and longer finish than I recall in prior tastings of this one . While the EMH '07 was more 'bold' this one is certainly an all-in classic cab, and aging so marvelously. Excellent for anything- from light appetizers, to full five course meal. Great dark purple, excellent finish.

94+ a true treat, the bottle that keeps giving

  • Coravined 30 minutes before sampling. Lush nose of rich dark fruits -- blackberries and black cherry. A unique vibrancy on the nose even tossing off some heat ahead of the first taste. Smooth full-bodied wine of black currants and jam on the palate with a nice finish but lingering heat. Slightly acidic, those notes distract from an otherwise wonderful wine. Next pour I'll wait 60 minutes before drinking. EMH wines drink fine when young but, in my experience, aged 8 - 12 years really seems to be the right window before sampling these beauties. This ‘06 has plenty of legs in it and I’m greatly looking forward to the next pour.
