One hour double decant. Deep ruby color, with a rusty rim. Pomegranate, leather, green apple, marigold, and subtle baker’s chocolate. Smooth, tongue drying palate. Full, silky tannins on the longish finish.
This is good, but really needed food to shine. It’s a bit austere at the outset.

When his grandfather started he was a sharecropper but was able to buy part of the property in the 1950s.
And that is the best smelling Valdicava that I have ever had. Really beautiful combination of fruit and savory character on the nose. And definition on the palate. A bit of a blood of a Christ pour in the glass but there it is. Ready to go now.

rating is for night three... on night one this btl lost to Altesino BdM Riserva '15 and on night two lost to Piccolo d'Aragona BdM Pianrosso '16, but was nicer that the Pianrosso on night three... not worth the premium for this btl in my view... and especially cuz my last test bottle Altesino BdM "Montosoli" '15 on night four was absolutely fantastic... overall this bottle was more subtle than the others

Favorites - 2022 Wine Spectator Grand Tour - Las Vegas: Shows smoked fig, red flowers, sunny earth, cedar and tobacco. Rich and seamless palate, broad and expansive, with fine structure and long length.
