  • Purchased for $20. I'm a huge fan of Quinta do Vesuvio for all the tradition and "old school" ways they make wine. Anytime you can drink one of their wines, you're drinking something special. It's not just wine, it's history. This Pombal has an amazing nose that I just can't stop smelling. Beautiful floral notes of violet with delicious blueberry, blackberry and spice. Similar notes on the palate, but I also get a hint of black cherry. Just a delicious wine. Grade: A-

  • Had at a dinner so no formal notes. Well received. Good dark fruit. Balanced. Enough bite on the finish. Solid value.

  • 14.5% vol
    Very deep ruby/purple
Deep nose of blue, black, and purple character – doesn’t feel too heavy, but displays plenty of density. Creamy fruit quality.
Full-bodied, lovely acidity, not heavy but present. Sappy touches, a dark core, plenty of red fruits too. Quite mineral, serious stuff, great freshness and lift. Sapid, long and textured.

  • Purchased for $20. This is a really pleasing wine to smell and ponder. Beautiful blueberry and plum fruits. I love that Portuguese smoky "spice" that I get in a lot of Portuguese wine. There are hints of slate and something that reminds me of the faintest whiff of ocean air. Something reminds me of the smell of my dad's model trains, either when they would spark or when he would add the smoke for the steam engine. I really enjoy this wine. Grade: A-

  • Quinta do Vesuvio is one of the iconic properties of the Douro valley and one of the very few producing both top quality Port and table wines in the same location. This is the 'second' wine of Vesuvio but is very impressive in 2017. Extremely deep, dense ruby with a slight purple hue. This required a very long decant but eventually opened up. Dark cherry, blueberry, dried earth, herbs, prune, underbrush and a touch of dark chocolate all populate the seductive, aromatic nose. The palate has surprising freshness and elegance with excellent mid-palate concentration and finesse. For the money there is a lot of potential here. The acidity keeps this light on its feet but the finish and tannins are still a little tight and drying through the slightly disjointed finish. Forget about it for 3-5 years.
