The tannins are still there but already less chewy than before, promisingly fine and sandy, enriching a ravishingly perfumed, if decidedly high-pitched, taste profile of red fruit, fresh roses, and herbs. However this still needs much more time to relax and reach the state of serene harmony characteristic of this wine at its best. 2030+ 92-93

Dark fruit on the nose, cocoa, violet, licorice. Harder, more masculine, and more brooding on the palate than the Rocche - but also more open. On the palate, some blue fruit emerges with an intriguing tinge of Cocoa powder on the finish - with the flavor profile and drying nature of the tannin, it really does create the sensation of cocoa powder. While this will clearly improve with time, I think opening a bottle now can provide enjoyment and an integrated sense of where this wine is heading. I wouldn’t say that is the case with the Rocche. Also, I am starting to wonder whether I prefer the Oddero Villero to the Rocche - that is counter to what I would expect so a potentially interesting theme for me to understand and explore when I am there next week!

La Festa del Barolo (Los Angeles) Grand Tasting (Marino Restaurant, Los Angeles): Beautiful aromas, weight, and sappiness. Outstanding balance of fruit and tar elements with late spice and citrus. Classic dry, tannic finish. I retasted this and confirmed that it was one of my favorite wines of the day. Outstanding aging potential.

Gorgeous floral nose with bright red fruit. I was surprised by how expansive the nose was at this stage. Palate is still tight but had wonderful red fruits. The only thing holding this back was a massively tannic finish that needs time to settle down. I expect this to be stunning in about 10 years once the tannins mellow.
