  • Slightly oxidized, but it appears to be naturally oxidized due to bottle age not due to a flaw in the bottle. Golden in color and has lost its vibrant fruit character. Almost has an apple juice consistency on the finish. However, there is something about this wine that I actually enjoyed despite its age and lack of fruit.

  • Impromptu at a friend's place. Tasted blind. Drank in Jancis universal glass.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, gold colour. Legs.
Nose medium intensity, with aromas of honey, stony minerals, white florals, citrus lemon, roasted nuts. Developed.
On the palate, dry, rounded high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of honey, strong citrus lemon, stony minerality, salt, roasted nuts, some white florals. Long finish.
Very good quality. I was guessing aged Puligny-Montrachet 1er, maybe about 12-15 years. Wow 1979! On hindsight the integrated roasted nut oak and roundness should have pointed to Meursault, but with this level of age and degree of freshness?? Now I know even a humble Meursault village can actually age for so long. Mind-opener. Restores some faith in aged white burgundies!
