  • The cork was a little suspect, but thankfully the wine was fine. Mature and evolved on the nose with nuts, honey, hay all playing, not much fruit here. In the mouth it was a lot fresher, still with some fruit. We enjoyed this better after decanting for 30mins or more, this didn't fade over a couple of hours of pleasure. Lovely mature white meursault, amazing for a villages at this age.

  • Mushy white mushroomy nose. Nice acidity with some fat. Not too shabby

  • Nose is roasted nuts, honey, musky, pineapples. Old pineapples, honey, sweet tangerines, mushrooms with a savoury finish.

  • Ming's 30th - a night of 1981 wines and more (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): This was amazing. I love it when Burgundy surprises you like that. Not a perfect, nor even a great wine by any measure, but for a village at 30 years old, it was drinking stunningly well and just gave oodles of pleasure. Beautiful nose here. Starting with cream and nuts, then moving into tons of peach and honeyed pear aromas with a sprig of herbs floating around. A fresh, entrancing nose. If we did not know the theme, I suspect most of us would have placed this at least a decade and a half younger just on the nose. To be fair, the attack on the palate had faded somewhat, so that it started a bit thin with its fresh green apple and lemon notes. Not quite as creamy and peachy here as it was on the nose, but there was a really nice sense of focus and definition to it, along with a sense of matured depth showing in a savoury, mushroomy undertone that made the wine oh so delicious. In spite of the thinner fruit, the finish too was surprisingly strong, stretching out with lovely length, displaying lovely lemony freshness laced with that little herby touch hinted at on the nose. Really nice stuff, all the more remarkable given what it is.
