NOSE: Opens with lots of freshly crushed yellow and red apples. Later more oxidative notes; bruised yellow apples, grey pears, wet forest floor, bottle aged fino Sherry, bread, mushrooms, soy sauce, dates. (91p) TASTE: The arrival is fresh and fruity, with plenty of “rounded” acidity and yellow and red apples. On the mid palate concentrated and packed with taste; fresh yellow and red apples, stone minerality, lemon, lime. Good body. (91-92p) FINISH: Lemon, lime, minerality. Medium to very long (89-90p) OVERALL: Obviously mature but with a fascinating mix of primary, secondary and tertiary aromas and tastes. TOTAL SCORE: 91 points.

Oh yum. I love aged champagne and it's been awhile since we've had any since it's getting harder and harder to find and more and more expensive. This was drinking just perfectly. If I could find some more I'd be purchasing it in an instant and it gives me faith that the aging we're currently doing with some growers will be well rewarded in 20+ years. This is caramel and almost a hint sticky and yet still quite vibrant. Glad we have more bottles.

For me, this is a hard wine to pin down. The colour is a bit "off" in the sense that it lacks the brilliance of manny other champagnes. Nose dominated by yellow apples combined with some dried fruits, some yeast, and a slight sherry tone with hints of nuts. Full bodied, not much mousse, some yellow apples and dried fruit in the mouth, and an almost sweet tone in the finish. Medium length with OK acidity. This wine is not too old, it is just a bit boring.

Charleston V - the wooden anniversary; 11/6/2019-11/10/2019 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): This bottle was showing a bit more age than the previous one. Lots more caramelized and toasty notes. Still quite enjoyable for my tastes though so I was happy to have it.
