Retail $22. 98% Chardonnay, 2% Gewürztraminer. Wente is one of the biggest names in California Chardonnay and is the oldest continually producing family-owned winery in the U.S., founded in 1883. This is one of the largest, in terms of production, in the winery's lineup and it certainly falls into the "traditional California Chardonnay" category. Day-bright straw color with tropical fruit aromas, plenty of lemon curd, and oak (90% oak fermented, 60% new). The palate falls right in line with the nose, fruity, oaky, good acidity. I get it, not everyone likes the oak. I get that. But for twenty bucks, this is a very nice traditional style Cali Chard. thedrunkencyclist.com

Opened last night. When first tasted last night after pop and pour, this came across as the quintessential caricature of the ocean of California chardonnay on grocery store shelves. Huge, rich, buttery and oaky--and nearly undrinkable for me. It has calmed down a tad after a night in the fridge, but still too overblown for me. Very developed dark yellow. Tons of oak, butter and tropical fruit in the nose. Even more overbearing in the mouth; as this warms up, I won't be surprised if it gets even worse. I only paid $11.99 for this (discounted from $14.99) but that was still too much. Life is too short to drink bad wine. 5-9-9-4: 77/100.

Not as happy with this bottle as the previous ones. May be fading.

Fairly high acidity for a CA style chardonnay that packs the butter and cream. Very ripe, roasted, cooked pineapple for the fruit.

Definitely a favorite, although we lean toward buttery CA chards.
