NobleRottersSydney - German night (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 13%, AP 02 19} Developing sort of nose with faintly earthy aromas leads to a palate that offers texture and character (of a sort) but not much in the way of actual fruit flavour. Has a furry aspect to the mouthfeel, little oak, medium powdery tannins, medium acid, even medium weight, but just needs some berry flavours. Perhaps a little pepper and spice is on offer, but that’s about it. I’m all for subtle, but it’s got to taste of something, surely? Not obviously faulty, either. Possibly time will help. But won’t win German pinot any fans.

Medium(-) ruby, watery rim, fast-moving tears. Medium aromas of red fruit, dried leaves, and white pepper. Dry, high acidity, low tannin, medium alcohol and medium body. Palate of cranberry, red berry, strawberry, savory flavors of mushrooms, earth. Structured, crunchy texture but misses material/gravity. Good length with almost racy finish with tannins finally emerging. Improves over the evening as it gains complexity and weight.

Plum and pen ink on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, plum, and notes of cranberry and vanilla oak on the medium finish, with light tannins and moderate to strong acidity. This was a good value at a little over $35. It should age for several years yet.
