2018 GSM blind tasting @ the Ross's for PSU-WVU: Liminal Weather Eye vs Domaine les Pallières Gigondas Les Racines. The 3 of us teetered back & forth on which was the new vs. old world... and which was preferred. In the end it was too tight a race to call, though both were delicious and primed to go after short decant. 93-94

👃 Initially sour raspberry, and in general red berries, that's pretty much it, but oh so appealing. 👄 Less sour then expected, taste of raisins , quite hot, med- on volume, fresh red berries where there is something blue going on as well. Hard to pinpoint. What I assume is describe as "garrigue" is also present. Good to go now or to be cellared some more in my honest opinion. 🛢️

A rich nose of garrigue. Drinks deceptively crisp and restrained given the flamboyant nose - acidic almost metallic on the palate. Short finish. Not my favorite vintage for Racines but by no means a slouch. Finished middle of the pack in a blind tasting of 6 different 2018 Gigondas.

Boom! Far exceeded expectations. Very fragrant, perfumy to match tons of ripe fruit: red plums and blueberries. Deep finish with caramel, with a splash of garrigue. Very well balanced and had me thirsty for another bottle. Wish there was a little more earth or leather, but that's my only complaint.

Loved this wine. it is 90% grenache , but I thought it tasted like a Syrah from Paso Robles. Pepper, savory flavors, cherry.
