  • 100% mountain nebbiolo from a 1400' - 1700' vineyard, released 6 yrs after harvest. Decanted 2.5 hrs. Med (-) ruby. Med (+) aromas of red cherries, cranberries, dried violets, tar, forest floor and subtle spices from 39 mos. in large oak casks. Dry, with med (+) to high acidity & tannins and med alcohol (13%). Med (+) body, w/ med (+) to pronounced flavor intensity & length. Quite youthful, it is still at the beginning of its drinking window. WS 94.

  • Drinkable now but also likely to improve and gain nuance for another decade. Sour cherries and tar with aromas of dried flowers. Medium to light body. Very elegant and old-school. Outstanding balance at 13% ABV. If only more Nebbiolo wines could say the same.

(Note to self: Next bottle in late 2028.)

  • Tasting yet another top Riserva from my favourite producer from Valtellina. Made from single varietal of Nebbiolo, locally referred to as Chiavennasca, aged for 5 years in big barrels, stainless steel and bottle. Medium ruby colour, garnet hue. Intense aroma of cherries, dried rose petals, tobacco, cranberries, toasted oak. Medium body, smoky and vibrant, slightly less elegant than Inferno, though still smooth and delightful with lively structure, high acidity and medium+ very refined tannins.

  • Sangiovese or Nebbiolo theme dinner at Solo. Tasted blind. Drank in Spiegelau Definition Bordeaux.
Appearance is clear, very pale intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of violets, purple plums, red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, lovely saliva-inducing high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), crunchy fine easy though high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of violets, purple plums, elegant sour red cherries, distinct unique stony minerality and tar earth. Medium+ finish.
Very good quality. Unique style Valtellina terroir at work, with some complexity, though it may come across as just an elegant playful easy drink.

  • Pale garnet is glass. Red sour cherry, potpourri, and tar. Light and elegant. Dances on the tongue. Hold.
