Smells medicinal and funky and anise. And a little stiff and hard on the palate. Its fun, but fun in the way that making mud pies as a child is fun. The tannins are there and drying.

Dark and big for a Caparone wine, but still has that signature acidity. Drinkable now with a decant, but I suspect this will get a lot better with age. I will stash away the 2018 I have. We drank this with a meatball and onion pizza which was a great combo. If you've never had this varietal you should give it a try - if you google it you will hear about how barnyard-y it is but I did not find it to have much of that quality at all, though I say that as someone who likes earthy wines. Best of all this is super inexpensive - $13.50 a bottle if you are a club member. Ridiculous steal.

These Caparone wines are "interesting". Wierd is also a word you may use as well.
This Amarone is funky, funky, funky.
I'm done with Caparone wines.
