  • The 2019 Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Großes Gewächs is a truly exceptional wine that immediately impresses with its pure and intense aromatics. On the nose, the wine initially reveals a distinct mineral character of chalk, which gives way to a beautiful array of aromas, including ripe stone fruit, umami, yuzu, and white cassis. As the wine opens up over time, the bouquet becomes more complex, offering a range of delicate floral and herbal notes.

On the palate, the wine is equally impressive, with a firm and focused structure that balances the wine's rich fruitiness and intense acidity. The wine's length and purity are notable, with a finish that lingers long after the last sip.

Overall, the 2019 Dönnhoff Dellchen Riesling Großes Gewächs is a wine that showcases the exceptional quality of the Dellchen vineyard and the skill of the winemaker. This wine is still quite young and should age gracefully for 1-2 decades, developing even more depth and complexity over time.

  • Glassware: Zalto Universal
    Prep: Pop n’ pour

Delicate and subtle nose of green apple, white and yellow flowers, and orange blossom. Broad on the palate, but with a generous amount of zesty acidity to provide some precision to the wine. There is a complexity of flavors including green apple, orange peel, tangerine, dried sage and other herbs, almond skin, saline and slate minerals. The finish is long, mostly herbal and mineral notes, with a touch of stone fruit providing a sense of ripeness and balance. With air and coming to room temperature there is more orchard and stone fruit presence on the nose and palate.

I’ve only ever had the Hermannshohle GG from Donnhoff before, which I love, but this was singular and delicious in own right. May need to find some more for the cellar. My wife was a big fan too, which is always a plus :)

  • 2019 Donnhoff GGs+GK friends (Zoom, Chicago, IL): Nose: The nose is intensely floral and aromatic with green apples, peaches, papaya, nectarines, acacia flowers, jasmine, saline, and all sorts of crushed rocks. There is a good amount of depth with a very floral and mineral driven nose that makes me want to constantly go back.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with racy, high acidity. The feel is silky with a lightness of feet with green apples, peaches, papaya, acacia flowers, jasmine, saline, and crushed rocks.

Overall: This is clearly young, but it is also enticingly lovely. This will certainly needs more years to fully show itself.
