  • Developed and mellow, I would not keep it any longer, but it is just lovely right now. It’s not pinot-like but the experience is like drinking a good pinot: it’s fragrant and delicate. Faded roses, rose hips with a bit of bacon, a classic mature Beaujolais Cru nose, savoury and aromatic at the same time, this is how carbonic gamay ages. Hardly medium-bodied with light extraction, but tannins are stemmy and firm, adding a nice grip on the finish. Not as complex as a great Burgundy, but just as finessed and exciting. A great wine, 90 points. Drink now. It’s around 17 € in France.

  • Opened after completion of a major project. Questionable food pairings on day 2 and day 3 (for one drinker only). Based on its evolution over 3 days, suspect this is still evolving and will wait another year.

Day 1: with Endless Color pizzas and salad. Wine storage was out of commission today, so this was pulled at cool room temperature. Medium, transparent, red-purple with purple edges. Tight nose with noticeable sulfur/rot. Not getting much fruit on the pallet. Tart bordering on harsh acidity. Overall, disappointing.

Day 2: with (or in my case after) trout with broiled broccoli and sweet potato. A much different wine today - the stink is gone and the fruit is there. Red fruit and floral up front with tart fruits (cranberry) and wood on the finish. Some may still find the tart backbone too harsh.

Day 3: with Cubano sandwich (or Sashimi). Still transitioning. Probably the best day.

  • Slick and Modern, tart/sour, hollow. Not what I want from Beaujolais.
