  • Fruity, plums and potpourri. Fun and easy going. Not much structure, not too serious. Bottle gave off sediment for a young zin.

  • Slightly porty and ripe nose makes you think this is going to scream VA or perhaps a monolithic mouth scraper. It’s actually quite elegant in the mouth and while not complex, is a complete wine from entry to finish. I like the 20% petit sirah addition here. Drink now w brief decant or hold.

  • Saturday night with burgers and clone wars: Colour - purple as. On the nose - the oak is evident, also some berries, blackberries maybe. On the palate - rich, giving as you’d expect - and what initially feels like a boozy hit resolves into something a little more structure. Autosuggestion perhaps but the Petite Sirah giving some order to the sirah. A bargain, truly, for what they sell it for at the cellar door, although once one accounts for the cost and effort of getting it to London the cost perhaps more accurately represents the value.

Another sip just really reminds me of what a structured wine this is. Would love to taste it with a decade’s aging alongside the Lytton from the same vintage. I have a sense it would show very well - purer and more linear. Much as I think I know Ridge wines, I really am only beginning to get them.

One classy wine. Petit Sirah adds elegance. Delicious!

  • This really comes off like the Petit Sirah is really dominating right now. The nose is a darker expression more Boysenberry or Loganberry. Hints of wood. That continues on the palate. Sort of more rich and blocky. Narrow in expression. Maybe given some time the Zin will unfurl and give this wine more interest. Very difficult to say. There is certainly the fruit here for more bottle time. Not a lot of tannin though. The acidity is less present than my last go with this. Three nights in this is still quite fresh in expression. No hurry but whether there is something worth waiting for is an open question.
