Slow oxed for 4 hour before serving. Nose exhibited darkish red fruit, candied fruit, oak spice, and mint. Palate was structured with good fruit purity and concentration.

Blinded the table with this. Many called it Liger Belair. Having had the 02 La Romanee under the CLB name just a little while ago I was interested to compare. Both are excellent, in balance, with constrained power. The texture is soft. The body is medium. The fruit red not black. A little spice. Just lovely

Meidum garnet. After a short decant, opened up and showed a beautiful nose of sour cherry, cured meat, sandal wood, musk and earthy notes. Elegant palate, reminding me of the Richebourg of Hudelot-Noellat style-wise. Very nice bottle that has been on three continents, so not the best provenance but it has traveled well after all.

La Romanee 2002, vinified by Liger Belair and bottled by Bouchard, is only just starting to open up. We gave it some time before drinking and that was required. Attractive but still slighty muted nose with some dark roses, tea leaves a bit of Chinese medicine. Palette is rich and explosive with intensity that lasts into the long finish. Very fine, elegant tannins. Thoroughly enjoyable.

PNP into BB&R Burgundy glass (“Leaf” day): Pale ruby with slightly bricking rims.
Smoke-infused darker red fruits. Very elegant liquorice and mints Very slightly savoury.
Very fresh for its age and seems like just entering secondary stage. Very nice structure on palate. Quite a complete wine indeed.
94 points.
