Nicely intense for a Gamay. Rich dark red color. Earthy funk on the nose and palate. Earthy, meaty undertone to the cherry and cranberry fruit. A bit grainy. Leads toward more dark fruit like mulberry and blueberry at the finish, with maybe a touch of motor oil.

Served blind. Medium plus intensity aromas of whole bunch ashiness, earthy, slightly muddy, black fruit; slight cherry, very slight sweet spice. medium plus intensity acidity is slightly sour, black hued fruits, chalky tannins are drying, a smidge of alcohol warmth on the finish. Old world, The alcohol warmth leads me to Italy or Spain. But it's very Gamay. Hmm. Warm vintage Beaujolais?

GT Wine Top Tasting Gamay and Beaujolais (Winespace, Surry Hills): Black cherry, lifted notes, a little farmyard funk, jubey notes. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy, fleshy, alcohol a little intrusive lends peppery spice, drying tannins, fruit a touch muted. Hmm.

Very reductive and funky. Interesting, but approaching objectively flawed. Perhaps just this bottle.

By the glass at Institut Polaire in Hobart. Not in the greatest of condition but the class is still evident. Dry, gamely fruits, junior Piedmont.
