Tasting at the winery. Brief impressions. The Houilleres 2019 (93pts) was a mighty impressive village wine with substance and poise. The Sous Fretille 2020 (88pts) was quite simple but without fault. The Corton Charlemagne 2019 (94+pts) had the typical enchanting salinity, good weight and length and a very good balanced. The best wine was the Batard Montrachet 2019 (96pts). At first a bit “too Batard” for my taste, this gained freshness by the minute, with more minerality and citrus notes coming forward, complementing the beautiful floral and orchard aromas and spices, and providing further lift. The only red we tasted, the Les Fichots 2019 (92pts) had a nice florality to it but still some rough edges that will need time to soften.

Tasted at the estate. Months of aging in 22% new oak. Matchstick, pear and beautiful salty minerality. Thin and perfectly complimentary frame of oak. Super crisp acidity, just a tad of cream on the palate, bun in all feels like some rough edges currently. Gains in breadth.
