  • Opened in HK. Slow-oxed for a while before being served.

Not quite as stellar as my previous bottle from 2 weeks ago, but still a wonderful showing. Probably would have loosened up with more air, but it just wasn't one of those days. Had a lot of longevity in the glass.

As for notes, this came across as more serious and dark than the previous bottle. The floral bomb that you sometimes get from Liger-Belair didn't quite come out today. However, this was very aromatic: a gorgeous and expressive nose that kept drawing you in for more. A hint of that enjoyable young Burg reducvitity. Very meaty on the palate, but this loosened up a little bit in the glass and started showing some notes of cola and spice. Extremely clean as always and a wonderful Vosne village.

Always a pleasure to drink and thanks to the other M for sharing this beautiful bottle!

  • Opened at L'Envol in HK. Slow-oxed for 1.5 hours before serving, and served blind alongside the VR '19 which was decanted.

All of us thought that the Colombiere would be the wine that needed more air and decanting - to our very pleasant surprise, this was absolutely fantastic right from the start.

Intense nose of red and blue fruits, hints of cola and flowers wafting from the glass. So clean and supple on the palate, with well-integrated oak even at this age and performing extremely well. Classy yet so drinkable, and a clear step-up in every aspect from the particular VR '19 served alongside it (though admittedly, that VR '19 wasn't the best bottle we've had).

There's definitely upside here, but given my wonderful experiences with this and the NSG Aux Lavieres '19, if you hit the right bottle of CLB '19 they are absolutely delicious even at this young age. For today, this wine hovered around a 94+ - just a tad shy from the performance of the Lavieres, which I scored 95.

Am already excited to revisit, but if you do happen to be lucky enough to have these wines, I'd recommend forgetting about a few in the back of your cellar for 3-5+ years and seeing how they evolve, I imagine these will turn out incredibly.

  • Belated birthday dinner at Wimborne. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of red flowers, peonies, baby powder, amazing spice, fragrant red fruits mélange, stones. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, fresh high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), very supple medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries, crushed flower juice, sweet spices, ?stems (although I think he usually destems), hedonistic sweet sap. Long sappy finish.
Very very good quality. Very forward and in your face screaming" Love Me!!!" Well I do love you - just maybe not at the absurd prices I would have to pay for these days.

  • 14% ABV. No. 330 out of 2285 bottles produced. PNP into Riedel Burgundy Superleggero glass (“Leaf” day): Pale purplish ruby to the eyes.

First pour impressions: Blue berry notes driven. Dry florals. Lots of “rice paper” / sesame like (potentially from the super premium oak?) and earthy notes that set this apart.

Still young and backwards and a little monolithic on the palate - supported by loads of minerality and good acidity with rich and regal bluish berry and dark red cherry fruits.

Hard to put this under 95 points but this may take time to evolve over the night.

Second pour, 7/8 left, 30 minutes upon opening: Starting to slowly unfold the “sesame” oak notes and blend in more of the juicy blue berries and purplish cherry fruits. Better balanced and also more tannic. More spicy on the finish too.

Third pour, 2/3 left, 1 hour upon opening: Getting richer and “sweeter” fruits now with more whole-bunch, purple cherry fruits and baking spices notes. More clear Vosne like to me now. Retain at 95 points.

Fourth pour, 1/2 left, 1 hour 30 minutes upon opening: Still unfolding but already showing more exuberant although now more bluish cherry fruits. Really getting there now and showing off the pedigree of winemaking here.

Fifth pour, 3/5 left, 1 hour 45 minutes upon opening: Getting even better integrated on both the nose and palate indeed. Cherry cola, superb minerality, highly energetic.

Sixth pour, 1/4 left, 2 hours upon opening: Finaly “there” in my view. Exuberant, sexy blue and purple berry and cherry fruits that is like “fireworks” to me, showy indeed but with the material to support the show even with this “basic cuvee”. 95-96 points. Really refined effort here and emotional. Inspiring style from this producer since 2017.

Last pour, 2 hours 30 minutes upon opening: Really “zen” now. Great end of the night!

  • Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair tasting with Moestue (Territoriet): Elegant and red fruited nose with the a touch of wild raspberries in the back. Some spice and dark cocoa coming through on the nose (“Vosne spice” if you like). Touch of smokiness.

Poised and well balanced palate with the slightest tannins in the back. Refreshing acidity and good length. The oak is noticeable, but well judged. This cuvée is approachable, but I would give it a couple of years in the cellar before approaching. I was a bit back and forth, but ended up having a slight preference for the Clos de Chateau.

    *Score: 91+/92-
