Note taken 1 1/2 hours after opening. Big nose, with notes of earth, leather, and raspberry. Beautiful palate, with raspberry, spice, and subtle floral notes. There's also a touch of licorice if you really look for it.
If this were served blind, I'd never guess this was a 19 year old Barbera. It drinks like it's at least 10 years younger. Will keep for 3-4 years yet at minimum. Well worth the gamble I took at auction. Fabulous wine.

3 years later and the last bottle.. and this one is SINGING! a great Barbera right now, and very typical Ai Suma. Lovely, concentrated and long.. ready, but can hold nicely for 2-3 years at least. Might end up as big as the 90? who knows. really nice!

Just shows how well Barbera of this quality can age, last of six, if anything better than penultimate bottle drunk in 2008, still a big bruiser, but now remarkably nuanced and fresh with lovely whack of brambly fruit on nose and palate. Fine (17.5/20).

Everything you could ever want in a Barbera; soft, smooth, yet tasty and delicious. Decanted for an hour before serving; clearly a good move. Purple and brooding in the glass; smooth as silk on the palate. A wonderful wine.
