  • The color is a light golden hue; clear, clean and inviting in the glass (as long as the lights are on). Fig, gooseberry, some, but not much, boxwood, then all shading to flint, creamed corn and smoke. A clean mineral and creamed corn finish. A very complete wine. Once the lights are out and the candles are lit, the interplay of flicking flames against the reflecting glass is mesmerizing. The balance of the wine brings quietude on a stormy night, diverting our attention from the quiet, still hotness of the day ahead of us. For my money, this is the epitome of classic Sauvignon Blanc. 13% alc. With select chevre (smuggled) cheeses from Loire Valley; absolutely stunning with the wine. Highly Recommended.

  • Slightly corked? DDB thinks so. But while the fruit and intensity aren’t there, the brightness and citrus are. Arghhh. I think she’s right. With roasted chicken.

  • Pith of white grapefruit, gooseberry, mineral and toast : these are the core flavors of this wine. Some creamed corn nebulously floats by, but not enough to add heft or weight to the wine’s flavor profile. While the wine expresses excellent acidity, it lacks the length, depth and complexity for which this cuvée is usually known. For those that have never had this wine, they will find much to enjoy. However, for those that know and enjoy this producer, this particular bottling may be a disappointment. 13% alc. With fried oysters. Recommended, but leaning toward Recommended with reservations.

  • The depth of this wine - both the fruit and the length and mouthfeel - is nothing short of incredible. From fig and gooseberry - loads of gooseberry! - to the wet limestone and smoke, to the very slight edge of creamed corn and vanilla from used oak barrels this delivers flavors. The mouthfeel is hefty, rolling like mercury on the tongue (without the side affects). The mid-palate isn’t as big or as long as I would expect, but it’s not absent in anyway. 13% alc. With baked shrimp scampi. Highly Recommended.
