  • Sampled at Oinoscent during service, courtesy of a customer
Fragrant, sour cherry notes, floral notes, red currant, very playful, elegant, finesse, palate is very smooth, vibrant acidity, full on red fruit , violet, elegant, fresh, youthful, give it time

  • First time with this producer. A really lovely bottle of PN- although I felt it was genuinely too young to warrant the price at the moment, which is something I VERY rarely say for most wines, especially with this grape. It wasn't "closed", but pretty shy and very primary/simple.

Sort of difficult to place the intended style. It feels "big" in some ways with a lot of rich fruit on the nose and palate, but it's VERY firmly in the "red fruit" camp (rather than black fruit as can happen with bigger Pinot)- basically a big hit of strawberry or raspberry compote, with a very faint touch of baking spice from the oak, in the far background. I wouldn't call it "jammy"- it was ALMOST there but thankfully there's a freshness to it also - sort of like a combination of fresh-picked, crunchy wild berries and homemade berry preserves. Definitely NOT the big soft cola-flavored Russian River style (many producers are moving away from that)- it honestly feels like a very medium style, neither super precise nor super rich, and medium isn't always my thing.

The texture and balance are in a great spot- velvety tannins but nicely weighty, the high ABV for a Pinot (I think 14.5%) was honestly totally unnoticeable, and the acidity feels bright and integrated. Nothing wrong with it at all, just very simple for the $70 price at this stage. It needs time to expand, hopefully becoming more expressive and possibly more complex to warrant the cost.

  • Good nose that is dusty PN. Body ok with vinous taste and a short finish. OK but not a hit with dark meat turkey with mushroom grave!

  • Winemaker Heidi von der Mehden is really dialing in the "refreshed" house style with this cuvée. A more delicate expression than previous releases, which were at times too extracted to my liking.

This strikes a balance between classic RRV floral aromas, a medium-bodied palate and a spicy finish. Very enjoyable now and worth a revisit.

Enjoyed over a meal with curry lime-rubbed Pacific salmon. Fantastic!
