The second time I’ve had this, and my impressions are identical - this is fantastic. It has a richness and silkiness without weight or grip. Red fruited with a beautifully distinctive cherry liqueur note that Mazzei always seems to find, some sweet tobacco, tomato, violet, salumi and wild herbs. But it’s delicate for all those punchy notes, mid-weight and lets everything sing. I haven’t liked any 2018s in Tuscany but this one is a real exception.
18 months in 500L french oak, 50% new. Then 4 months in concrete and the remainder in bottle until release 3 years from vintage.

Somewhat bolder than excellent vintage 16 - yet another sparkling vintage of the Fonterutoli GS. Garnet ruby, semi-translucent in the glass. Nose brings ripe cherries, tobacco, violets. Palate is full-bodied, beasty up-front, tannins fine, superb juice w flavours as per above w addition of spice, vivid acidity, good texture and concentration as always. Elegant, balanced, a true joy.
