  • La Tablee: The Glory of Cote Rotie (Clusel Roch) (Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria): The wine of the flight. Typically I'm the person where my favorite wine stays in the glass because I want to extend it out but somehow this wine just disappeared from my glass. It was a lovely wine though.

  • Killing unicorns tonight. Bought in France, lugged it to Texas, cellared since 2016. Gorgeous, ethereal Syrah. Seriously gorgeous fruit. Melange of black fruit, fig, cocoa nib, braised beef, and only the faintest whisper of smoke. The bottle bobbed and waved over 3-4 hours, and once it was open, was gone. really memorable Cote Rotie. Plateau'ed. Can't see this getting any better if you have any.

  • My first cote rotie with age on it. Fantastic. I think the drinking window is, shockingly, just opening up now. Garnet colored, great nose, complex taste after the first 30 minutes decanting. It wasn't around that long, maybe 2 hours, but during that time, it unwound and managed to provide really engaging, increasingly-long experiences with each sip. It was a ride that was educational to compare to the '90s Bordeaux and CdPs I've tried, as there were times where it veered more toward kirsch or even cola (without being gross) and others where it was lighter than I anticipated. Elegant, and a delight. If you recently bought some of this, you will not be sad. Have a hunch it's good for another 10+ years.
