No decant, lots of sediment. Red to brownish color, nose a bit mixed. Still an impressive bouquet of dark red fruit, cherries, plus a wonderful sweetness of dark chocolate and mocca. More elegant than powerful. Medium silky finish. At the end of drinking window, don‘ t wait too long.

Such a pleasure to taste this wine again. I had high expectations and they were completely fulfilled. Dark chocolate and cherries with a touch of vanilla and some floral notes. It doesn't show a lot of age with regards to tertiary notes. There is still sweetness to the dark cherry fruit but it has become a lot more light and refreshing without loosing its density. There is an impressive balance in the wine right now accompanied with a lovely freshness and intensity. This is a wine that will show doubters why Amarone should be consumed after 20+ years and not in its youth.

Very pleased to have had another opportunity to taste this excellent Amarone from a great vintage. The color is medium (+) ruby, with some sediment. The nose is clean and complex, with chocolate covered cherries, sweet black plums, dried strawberries and a floral element. The palate is dry, with plenty of sweet red fruit. The acidity is medium, the tannins are medium and resolved and the alcohol is medium (+) at 14.5%. This is a fairly well balanced wine, with medium (+) body, flavor intensity and length. It is still drinking very well and appears to be younger than the stated age. Drink or keep for a few more years.

dark red fruit, some date, nut, bramble; more elegant now, but still has adequate structure; decant for sediment.

1997 Amarone Horisontal + Quintarelli (Copenhagen): I had really hoped for finally being able to taste this again and were expecting big things but the nose had cabbage and the flavors were muted.
