  • Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet/mahogany rim. Nose is still quite youthful with red cherry, almond kernel, soil edge. Medium plus bodied on the palate, red cherry, notes of brown sugar and fig but again still quite primary, fresh acids, tannins poking through a touch on the medium length finish. Pretty good.

  • Medium ruby/garnet core, medium pale garnet rim. Slightly bitter red cherry fruit on the nose, quite complex with soil, hint of hazelnut, spice (including ginger) and brown sugar. Very fresh on the palate, medium bodied with good depth and length on the mid-palate. Flavours of red cherry, bitter notes, but there's a sweetness here too. It has firm but quite fine (certainly not aggressive) tannins and mouth-watering acidity. The finish is long and fresh with notes of soil and figs and some firm tannin. Really lovely example, this has the acidic tension and complexity that can be so attractive in nebbiolo. At least until 2012.

  • Complex nose of ripe strawberry, black raspberry, Twizzler, brown spices, bittersweet chocolate, salted caramel. Palate follows nose with ripe strawberry, brown spices, bittersweet chocolate with almost mouthfilling concentration and intense sour cherry acidity. Finishes with ripe fig and relatively fine yet tactile, nonastringent tannin. A superb bottle showing impressive development and surprisingly good wood integration compared to one 15 months ago. Shows much more nebbiolo character at this point. Should continue to improve over another 2-3 years, probably longer, but drinking very well now.

  • Powerful sweet, floral aromas of cherry cough syrup, salted caramel, iron tailings. Generous in the mouth, with tart red berry flavors, rust, dried roses, leather, medium(+) to high acidity, and a rich midpalate. Barrique aging shows again on the finish, which has nuances of semi-sweet chocolate covered cherries and dulce de leche, with fine, chewy tannins. Rich and concentrated for a northern nebbiolo, tastes like a late picked style wine. Although the strong acidity carries the wine well. This will easily go another 5 years, probably more. On 2nd day the wood is even more pronounced, with sweet vanilla tones I find obnoxious. A Marc De Grazia selection (which explains the style here).
