Borgogna: chiusissimo, in riduzione. con tanta aria sprigiona odore di un mazzo di fiori secchi, cuoio, acqua di concia e preannuncia un gran tannino. Assolutamente nessuna ossidazione. In bocca grandissima intensità, denso e materico ma allo stesso tempo fresco, mentolato. Torna anche chinotto sul finale.

Volnay and Pommard Blind Tasting (My Home): Showing evolution on the rim. Tired nose and palate. Moldy. The wine has seen better days. Surprised to see the vintage as the few 90s I had were still going strong and quite ripe.

Deep rouge-purple hue; nose is effusive with notes of grilled meat, cheese and plummy fruit -- notes of surmaturite but not 'roasted.' On the palate, the wine is wonderfully balanced, and while ripe and mouthfilling, it still has youthful energy. On the back half, there is still considerable fresh fruit acidity and very soft round tannins. All told a lovely bottle of wine, quite a contrast with the 2000 Voillot Volnay Champans tasted along with it, which is still all tiny red fruits, flowers, grainy tannins and quite brisk acidity, in an intense but more weightless style.
