  • Lacy, beautiful soft red fruits. Very powdery / floral nose. Very fine. Beautiful middleweight with a lovely finish. I'll take the fineness over the imbalance in so many 2000's every time and this was an extremely easy bottle to drain.

  • Clear minerals and flowers on the mildly reticent nose point you straight to Volnay. Very sappy and pure sweet red fruits with the tannin all but invisible and an iron tinged cut. Moderate length. Perhaps a middleweight, and perhaps a wee simple, but it is exquisitely balanced and very enjoyable. I would imagine this will improve and develop for several years to come at least.

  • Balanced pinot with cherry/currant fruit and a smooth finish.

  • Color a palish strawberry reddish/pink; the nose is bright red fruits, almost cranberry, with earthy notes. On the palate the wine is somewhat weightless -- and I mean that in a good way, as it is also extremely fresh and fruity, dominated by tiny red currant flavors and a floral fragrant note that follows through the long finish. The impression is of a very young wine, which somewhat surprised me -- I do not detect much if any development from the last bottle of this I drank a couple of years ago, and fully expected a reasonably mature bottle. This is a pleasant drink now, but I do think it probably could use another 3 to 5 years in cellar to achieve more balance and maturity and, I would think, to begin showing more of the darker fruit one expects from Champans.
