After a bottle of this a few years ago whose cork had failed, I thought it unlikely I'd come across the 85 Voillot Champans again. But to my good luck, this was generously opened beside the Fremiets! What a contrast with the Fremiets this offers; here, the style is altogether more serious and brooding, muscular where the Fremiets is lithe. I prefer the Champans for its deeper-toned cherry, musk, earthen attributes which speak to some of the fundamental points of what is expected of mature Champans.

We were all surprised by how sweet this wine was, and how lively. Very gulpable, though not terribly complex. Just delicious and not much more, can't complain about that.
Oddly, the label didn't denote 1er Cru status but rather AOC. The vineyard is indeed 1er Cru, and the performance of the wine certainly was. Just interesting to note, not sure what that's about.

From mon millesime. Cork was a little sunk, though the fill was good. Moldy cork, fully saturated - totally gone.
